There’s this general belief that, in case there’s anything like destiny, it is described as the point where you will eventually reach — your destination.
There are so many things you can do in this life that can change your final destination. But what if you die tomorrow, 5 minutes after you jump into a taxi? Some people would say that was your destiny. But that’s too random.
The word ‘destiny’ carries so much weight to be something random. It can’t be spontaneous death because of an accident. It can’t be winning the lottery because you dreamed about the lotto numbers in your sleep last night. Destiny is not luck, nor random. Destiny is where you’re coming from.
Your destiny is exactly the moment you are born, and it’s made of your family and the city you are born in.
That moment is so specific and so exact that, no matter what you do, you can’t change it. Instead, you have the freedom to do whatever you want after your destiny has already happened.
You can be born in a poor family and, through your actions, you can become wealthy. To those actions, add luck, environment, nature, and so on.
Whatever you do, you can never change your destiny, but you can change your destination.
And because you cannot change it, it shouldn’t matter. So stop investing resources into figuring it out.
Most people spend time and invest effort into blaming their starting point. They hate being poor or not having enough opportunities. And through those actions, not only do they fixate on what can’t be changed (their destiny) but also don’t realise that they can influence their destination.
People do it because they compare themselves with those around them. They compare their destiny with others’ destinies. But since you can’t change it, why even pay attention to it?
Sure… knowing your roots can help you better understand yourself… blah blah blah.
You are who you are, not who you used to be. You are not your family or the city you were born in. You are who you are right here and now. And because you are who you are, your destination will always be different than anyone else’s. Your destination is unique.
So embrace that. Embrace the possibility of having an amazing destination and live for that.
Set aside your starting point and the shortcomings of your birth moment. It wasn’t anyone’s fault that your parents had you at that location and moment in time. For whatever reason, it happened. And it cannot be changed.
Accept that and live with intention.
